Should You Consider Air Conditioning Repair in Kissimmee?

Most people are unsure of when it is time to stop repairing their air conditioners and replace them. While it will be different for everyone, there are a few tips that you can use to determine when your Kissimmee air conditioning is best to be repaired or replaced.

Go Without

This tip will not work for almost all people in Kissimmee and other areas, but many times, it is too much of a hassle to consider replacing your air conditioner and repairing it. Repairs can cost a lot of money and usually don’t have guarantees. Replacing the unit can cost upwards of $4,000 or more, so this could also be a problem.

If you truly don’t think you will need the A/C in your home, then by all means, do without. However, this option won’t work for most.

Age

After the A/C unit gets to be about 10 years, it will likely need to be replaced. However, if you care for your air conditioning unit well and keep it properly maintained, age may not be much of a factor. Consider the 5,000 rule. This rule states that if you can multiple the repair cost by the equipment’s age and the number you receive is more than $5,000, then replacement may be a better option. For example, if your A/C unit is 15 years old and the cost of repair will be around $500, the number you will get when you multiply is 7500. Because it is over $5,000, it will likely be a better deal to replace the entire unit.

For better energy efficiency, you will usually need to replace the unit every 10 to 15 years, though most air conditioning units have an average lifespan of approximately 14 years, depending on where it is located and how it was cared for.

Refrigerant

Most new A/C units require R-22 refrigerant and if you find that your unit requires more refrigerant, there is a leak somewhere. This can be a costly process to replace the refrigerant as there are service call fees and the refrigerant itself can be expensive.

In most cases, units with R-22 leaks should simply be replaced because the compressor will likely go out, which will cost around $2,000 to replace.

Repair

Consider keeping track of how often you require repairs for your Kissimmee air conditioning, because if you need a repair once a year, the unit may be too small or large for your home or there could be some other problem. For more information visit http://www.smithair.net/#!air-conditioning/c24ib
